‘Cats’ Movie First Trailer: Cast, Release Date And More [WATCH]
The "Cats" trailer just dropped, and it was... interesting to say the least. (Check it out above). However, even more interesting than the trailer may actually be the undeniably star-studded cast attached to the film.
So without further ado, here are the A-list stars that have transformed into furry felines and the roles they will play.
Oscar-winner Jennifer Hudson will play Grizabella, who sings the play's most famous song, "Memory." Here's the American Idol alum singing the hit at CinemaCon in April.
The cast also includes pop star Taylor Swift as the flirtatious Bombalurina, the hilarious Rebel Wilson as Jennyanydots, Tony winner James Corden as the intelligent Bustopher Jones, Jason Derulo as Rum Tum Tugger, and, let's not forget about the criminal Macavity, who will be portrayed by Idris Elba.
"Lord Of The Rings" star Ian McKellen, Oscar winner Judi Dench and Laurie Davidson also join the cast as Gus the Theater Cat, Old Deuteronomy, and Mr. Mistoffelees, respectively.
In addition, The Royal Ballet's Francesca Hayward will make her big-screen debut in the lead role of Victoria. The half-Kenyan, half-English ballerina has played Juliet in "Romeo and Juliet," Aurora in "Sleeping Beauty," and The Sugar Plum Fairy in "The Nutcracker."
"Cats", which is directed by Tom Hooper ("Les Misérables"), is an adaptation of Andrew Lloyd Webber and T.S. Eliot’s broadway phenomenon of the same name. The plot follows a tribe of cats, called Jellicles, as they attend the annual Jellicle Ball and each pleads their case for why the should ascend and receive a new life.
"Cats" is scheduled to crawl into theatres Friday, December 20.
