KEY POINTS

  • Jeremy Lin tied CBA All-Star record of 11 three-pointers
  • Hu Mingxuan scored on a Fastbreak layup for the winning play
  • Zhou Qi played as a starter despite back injury

A fastbreak layup to take the lead and a steal on the opponent’s final push spoiled Jeremy Lin’s CBA debut as Southern Stars escapes Northern Stars, 167-166 in the 2020 edition of the Chinese Basketball Association All-Star game.

Hu Mingxuan converted a layup off transition with 12.3 following Lin’s missed layup left before American guard Marcus Denmon stole the ball and the South rotated the ball all over the court as the time expires and settle the final score.

Guangdong Tigers’ Zhao Rui scored 30 points, six rebounds, five assists, and a steal as the South’s starting point guard. Zheijiang Lions’ Hu Jinqiu also scored 30 points, nine rebounds, and two assists to lead all scorers off the bench for the South team.

Lin, whose Chinese name is Lin Shuhao, scored a game-high 41 points, nine rebounds, five assists, and a steal in 27 minutes of play. Part of the Toronto Raptors’ championship team in the NBA last season, Lin tied the CBA All-Star record for most three-pointers in a game with 11. The record was set by another former NCAA hotshot Jimmer Fredette during the last year’s all-star game. Fredette, a first-round draft pick in 2011 NBA Draft, broke the previous record of 10-three pointers set by Wang Shipeng in 2007 per CGTN report.

He went to his social media accounts and shared his experience playing like an All-Star, his first in his career. He won’t be playing for Beijing until February as he was swapped with Justin Hamilton as the team’s foreign player.

Yi Jianlian, the top vote-getter for the All-Star game, started the game with two-straight three-pointers and finished with 10 points and a steal in less than seven minutes of playing time while Denmon, who made the winning defensive play, had 26 points, five assists, three steals and two rebounds.

Veteran center Han Dejun had himself a double-double with 37 points, 11 rebounds, two assists and two blocks while Tao Hanlin led the bench scoring with 34 points, eight rebounds, an assist and a steal. North Stars’ Zhou Qi only played in less than a minute as he’s still recovering from his back injury he got in their final game of 2019.
