CD Projekt Red Clarifies Reports About 3 ‘Cyberpunk’ Games
“Cyberpunk 2077” developer CD Projekt Red spoke out to clarify some confusion caused by using Google Translate on a Polish report.
Previously, the International Business Times reported that CD Projekt Red has three teams working on three “Cyberpunk” games: the first team being the one working on the “basic” version that’s set for release soon, a 40-member team working on a multiplayer mode for “Cyberpunk 2077,” and another team working on a “big project” set in the “Cyberpunk” universe.
These details and more came from a report from Polish business website Bankier that was translated to English using Google Translate. The translation didn't accurately convey what the game studio wanted to say, resulting in confusion regarding the studio's projects.
Clarification
In an email sent to PC Gamer, CD Projekt Red clarified that it is not working on three separate “Cyberpunk” titles. Rather, CD Projekt has three distinct teams are working on the same “Cyberpunk 2077” game.
"We currently have a total of five teams working on a number of projects, with three focusing on the development of Cyberpunk 2077,” a CD Projekt Red representative told the game news site.
“These include CD Projekt Red Warsaw and Kraków, who are handling the main game, as well as the Wrocław studio, where around 40 industry specialists are engaged in technology R&D," the representative added.
Simply put, excited players can rest assured that CD Projekt Red is giving its all-out attention to the upcoming title which has an installation size twice as large as that of its earlier hit, the award-winning “The Witcher 3.”
Other clarifications
The representative also sought to clarify other things presented in the Bankier report, saying the game studio has another team at the Warsaw studio working on developing “Gwent,” the spinoff of a card game from “The Witcher 3.”
Lastly, the representative said a team called “Spokko” is working on an unnannounced mobile project. This serves to correct the earlier report that said “Spokko” could be a game title. As per the representative, it’s not a title, but the name of the team working on the unnanounced project.
This report serves to remove any confusion the previous report might have caused.
