CES 2023: HP Refines Omen Line Of Laptops And Desktops
KEY POINTS
- The upgraded Omen 17 will feature RTX 40-series cards
- The Omen 40L and 45L desktops will support the latest NVIDIA GPUs
- The Omen 25L model received more CPU options
The Omen series of mobile and desktop computers won't have new models this year. But its existing units are due to get a refresh of their internal components to boost their competitiveness in today's gaming scene.
During HP's CES 2023 kickoff, the company revealed that the Omen 17 gaming laptop will be its most powerful portable PC yet. The base model of the 2023 edition will be equipped with an Intel i7-13700HX, while its upgraded version will come with the faster i9-13900HX.
The CPUs are going to be supported by NVIDIA's latest RTX 40-series of graphics cards that have recently been released for laptops, although HP did not specify what the exact model is going to be. Storage starts at 512GB with an NVMe SSD, and it can be upgraded to 2TB in total.
As for memory, the i7 model of the laptop can support DDR5-4800, while the i9 variant can take DDR5-5600 sticks. Memory capacity maxes out at 32GB for both models.
Meanwhile, two of HP's three Omen desktop chassis (the 40L and 45L versions) are set to receive the same treatment. Each of the computer setups is getting more options so gamers can get pre-built machines ready to take on even the most demanding of modern titles.
The upgraded options include NVIDIA's RTX 4080 and 4090 cards, as well as the K and KF versions of the 13th-gen Intel CPUs listed above. Additionally, they retain their GPU support brackets so that no unnecessary stress is placed on the cards while they are attached.
The smaller 25L version of the Omen desktop chassis does not get additional GPU options, retaining its selection of RTX 30-series cards and older NVIDIA and AMD offerings, but HP did update its CPU options. The air-cooled 25L variant starts with a Core i5-13400 and caps off with the Core i7-13700. Meanwhile, the liquid-cooled version has only the Core i5-13600K and KF CPUs available.
Neither of the upgraded computers is commercially available as of late, but the HP Omen 17 laptop is slated for release sometime this month. The updated 25L, 40L and 45L desktops are due out sometime later this year.
