Chargers Kicker Nate Kaeding Out for the Season
San Diego Chargers kicker Nate Kaeding is out for the rest of the season after tearing his ACL against the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday.
Kaeding, in his eighth season with the team, suffered the torn ACL on the opening kickoff of Sunday's game.
The Chargers replaced Kaeding with punter Mike Scifres, who kicked a 40-year field goal in the team's 24-17 victory, but are expected to hold tryouts this week for a long-term replacement. Former Redskins and Jets kicker Nick Novak is expected to be one of the free agent kickers in attendance.
Kaeding is one of the most accurate kickers in NFL history, though he has had well-known struggled in the post-season. Over his career he is 173 for 200 in field goal attempts, but only 3 for 9 in the playoffs. He notably missed three field goals attempts in a Chargers playoff loss to the New York Jets in 2009.
The kicker was 23 for 28 for field goals and perfect in extra point attempts last season.
