  • A judge ordered Monday that child support for Denise Richards be at "zero"
  • The change would be reflected retroactively to April 1, which was when Charlie Sheen began taking care of their daughters full time
  • Their 17-year-old daughter, Sami, moved into Sheen's home after claiming to have left an "abusive" household

Charlie Sheen has been allowed to stop paying his ex-wife Denise Richards child support after their 17-year-old daughter, Sami, moved into his home.

Sheen and Richards' eldest daughter revealed in September that she had moved out of her mother's alleged "abusive" household, with her father later confirming that the teen was now living with him. Weeks later, Sheen’s request to stop paying Richards child support was granted by a judge.

"I think what transpired today is extremely fair," Sheen, who also shares 16-year-old daughter Lola with Richards, told Us Weekly. "It speaks to not just today, but it speaks historically to that same fairness."

During Monday's hearing, Judge Alexander Giza ordered that child support for Richards be at "zero." The change would be reflected retroactively to April 1, which was when the Sheen began taking care of the girls full time.

The "Two and a Half Men" actor filed a request for an order to change the former couple's child support arrangement in December 2019. The "Real Housewives of Beverly Hills" alum, 50, did not file any opposition paperwork, said the judge.

Sheen attended the hearing with his attorney, Gregory Pedrick, but his ex-wife did not show up. During the hearing, Pedrick asked the judge to order "zero child support" for Richards, arguing that Sheen has had 100% custody of both their girls since April.

An unnamed source told the outlet that Richards didn't make it to the hearing because she is "working out of state, which Charlie was well aware of."

"Denise was never served this court date," the tipster claimed, adding that Sheen "did this on purpose [so she wasn’t able to be there]."

The source continued, "He filed two years ago and he kept pushing the court date. Denise kept asking when the date was and he blew her off. He pushed it off because he didn’t want records of the child support he was paying Brooke [Mueller] to impact the case after he agreed to pay them both the same amount of child support."

The insider alleged that Sheen has not paid Richards child support in at least four years. The source further claimed that Lola only lives with him when Richards is busy filming.

Sheen's lawyer, however, claimed the actor was overpaying monthly in child support. Sheen set up a $1.2 million trust for his daughters after he filed his initial petition, his attorney noted.

The lawyer also claimed that Richards owes Sheen money because he allegedly overpaid in child support for so long but added that his client had chosen not to recoup the funds.

The ruling came after Sami alleged in TikTok videos that she had been "trapped in an abusive household." The teen claimed that she "hated [herself], would go days without eating or sleeping, [was] insanely depressed [and] hated school" before moving out of what she called a "hell house."

A source told People, however, that Richards and her daughter clashed over "normal rules that any parent would be setting."

"She's a mom and a parent and there are rules. [Sami] didn't want to follow the rules. Charlie didn't support implementing Denise's rules. He has a different way of parenting and Sami decided to live with her dad," the insider told the outlet. "Denise loves her daughter very much and she's saddened by the situation."

Charlie Sheen and Denise Richards
Charlie Sheen and Denise Richards met on the set of “Good Advice” in 2000 and married two years later. The couple had two girls together, Sam and Lola Sheen. In March 2005, Richards filed for divorce, claiming Sheen had substance abuse problems and had made threats of violence towards her. She also claimed he was addicted to gambling, porn, prostitutes and prescription drugs. Sheen denied the allegations. The divorce was finalized in November 2006, but the couple entered a heated custody battle. Richards filed court papers in 2007 requesting that her children not be left alone with Sheen. In 2008, Sheen attacked Richards for allowing his daughters to be on her show. The former celebrity duo reached a custody agreement in 2008, but the details have not been publicly disclosed. REUTERS
