KEY POINTS

  • Charlotte Flair and Becky Lynch's long history together has been well-documented for the past few months
  • Comedian Jeff Dye, Lynch's ex-boyfriend, has confirmed that Flair took offense to Lynch potentially overshadowing her
  • Flair has not been seen on WWE TV since May 2022, while Lynch continues to reach great heights

The duo of Charlotte Flair and Becky Lynch is among WWE's most reliable female stars since they both burst onto the scene thanks to their time on NXT, but the rift between them has only grown.

American stand-up comedian and Lynch's former boyfriend Jeff Dye made an appearance on Freddie Prinze Jr.'s podcast to comment on the best-friends-turned-mortal-enemies issue between the two women's performers.

"I hope I'm not sharing too much here, but they would take it really personal. Like when her and Charlotte were feuding, I would listen to her be like, 'I can't believe Charlotte's actually getting mad at me.' I was like, 'You guys do know this is a storyline, right? You guys don't have to actually be upset with each other for this to work,'" Dye stated.

"Charlotte had a difficult time that Becky was starting to become the face of the female wrestling thing. I guess it wasn't surprising."

On the October 22, 2021 episode of SmackDown, things appeared to come to a head between Flair and Lynch as a segment where the then-Women's Champions needed to exchange titles after being drafted to SmackDown and Raw respectively.

However, it turned ugly after Flair went off-script and threw the belt on the ground before the exchange was eventually had.

Sources at the time report that the segment was not supposed to go down as it happened on TV and that the pair had some heated words backstage.

Lynch, in a later interview with Sports Illustrated, confirmed that the pair are no longer friends and that she had difficulty working with Flair.

"Oh, 100% more difficult... You always have to be on guard. It's like a game of chess. You have to be thinking two steps, three steps, four steps ahead," Lynch was quoted to have said.

In the early days of NXT's rebrand as WWE's developmental show, Lynch and Flair stood out in the women's division alongside Sasha Banks and Bayley as part of the "Four Horsewomen."

The quartet would consistently put on great matches against one another and with others in NXT and WWE's faith in each woman was proven correct when they had their respective call-ups to the main roster.

While Flair and Lynch have not crossed paths in quite a while because of the former's absence from TV since May of this year, Lynch's star has only continued to grow and has been in a high-profile feud involving Bayley and Bianca Belair.

Dye's revelation is not all that surprising at this point to industry fans who have closely followed Lynch and Flair's careers, though if WWE decides to put them on a collision course upon the latter's return, the rivalry is already there and the only thing that would remain is when their blowoff match will happen.
