‘Charmed’ Reboot In The Works, But There’s A Catch
“Charmed” is returning to TV!
The cult-favorite series created by Constance M. Burge is getting a reboot at the CW, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The reboot will be created by “Jane the Virgin” showrunner Jennie Snyder Urman and writers Amy Radin and Jessica O’Toole.
While fans of the original series may already be beaming with excitement, there’s a bit of a catch. The reboot will be a “reimagining” of the original series. The upcoming series will reportedly be set in 1976 and will connect to the story of the original show, although it is still unclear how it will be laid out.
Alyssa Milano, who starred as Phoebe Halliwell on the show, already tweeted her delight over the news of the reboot. “#Charmed fans! There are no fans like you. You’re the best of the best,” the actress wrote.
While she did not say it explicitly, it seems like Holly Marie Combs, who played Piper Halliwell, has also reacted to the reboot news. In a tweet, the actress said, “We wish them well.”
CBS announced their plan to do a reboot in 2013, but the project did not receive the support of the original actors. “The thing about them doing a #charmed reboot is… it just… it feels like yesterday,” Milano said at the time. Meanwhile, Rose McGowan, who played Paige Halliwell, said she does not like the idea of reboots in general. “They really are running out of ideas in Hollywood,” McGowan said.
While a reboot did not seem like a good idea at the time, the actors have always been open to doing a reunion. Speaking with Entertainment Tonight in February 2016, Milano said: “We are all open for it! It seems like that’s going to happen any second. I just feel like with all these reunions, and we still have such a cult following, that I feel like someone’s going to put that together at some point, and we’re all totally on board for that!”
“Charmed” ran from 1998 to 2006. The series also starred Shannon Doherty as Prudence Halliwell.
