Federal prosecutors want "Cheer" star Jerry Harris to remain in jail until his trial, alleging that he could be a danger to children, a report said.
Harris, who became popular following his appearance on Netflix series "Cheer," was arrested in September on a federal child pornography charge and has a bond hearing scheduled for Wednesday. He has been in a Chicago jail since his arrest.
Prosecutors argue that he should stay behind bars until his trial as Harris is "a clear and present danger to the community and most notably defenseless children," TMZ reported, citing court documents.
The court documents also claimed that Harris allegedly used his popularity to add to his "predatory arsenal" and that he paid his victims substantial sums of money to perform sexually explicit acts.
Arguing that Harris should remain behind bars, prosecutors alleged that he has exploited at least 10 boys and showed all signs of a child predator. Even when Harris was tipped off to a possible investigation into his activities, he allegedly did not control his urges and continued to victimize minors, prosecutors said in court documents.
"As Harris' fame grew through his acting career, Harris appears to have added to his predatory arsenal by using money to exploit his minor victims," federal prosecutors alleged, Entertainment Weekly reported. "Recent victims were offered substantial sums of money, sometimes over $1,000, to perform sexually explicit conduct for Harris over Snapchat or FaceTime while Harris masturbated."
Harris was arrested on Sept. 17 for allegedly coercing a minor to produce sexually explicit videos and photos, federal officials stated.
Two 14-year-old twin brothers from Texas had earlier filed a lawsuit alleging Harris harassed them for over a year, both online and in-person at cheerleading competitions. Their complaint said the harassment began when the brothers were 13 and Harris was 19.
Responding to the lawsuit, a spokesperson for Harris said they disputed the claims made against the former cheerleader.
"We categorically dispute the claims made against Jerry Harris, which are alleged to have occurred when he was a teenager," the spokesperson told Vulture. "We are confident that when the investigation is completed the true facts will be revealed."
Following his arrest, Harris admitted to law enforcement officials that he solicited and received child pornography on Snapchat from at least 10 to 15 people he was aware were minors. He also confessed to having sex with a 15-year-old at a cheerleading competition last year and paying a 17-year-old money in exchange for nude photos.
Reports indicate that more charges could be brought against Harris.
If convicted, Harris faces 15 to 30 years in federal prison.
