  • Willian may be offered a three-year deal but with less money

Willian Borges da Silva fancies a three-year deal, and this is what it will take for Chelsea F.C. to keep him. This is the same thing he wanted even before the COVID-19 pandemic, and the ball is now on the Blues' corner.

Willian's time at Stamford Bridge is winding down, with his current deal set to expire on July 26. And if Chelsea is not careful, the Brazilian may just end up taking his act somewhere else. He confirmed to the De Sola YouTube channel that several teams have expressed interest in him.

"There are rumors about several teams that may be interested," Willian said. "I'm waiting. My agent hasn’t given me any news yet. I'm waiting for his call."

Before the coronavirus pandemic hit, Willian already had conversations with Chelsea regarding his future. To recall, the Blues were only willing to hand him a two-year deal.

But Willian reiterated that he still wants a three-year deal, something that pundits are not surprised about. The Brazilian is not getting any younger and his apparent concern right now is security.

"Chelsea only offers me two years and I asked for three. My goal in the next contract is to sign for three years. So I haven’t had a deal with Chelsea yet," he explained.

At 31, there is no denying that this could be Willian's last chance at a big contract. He stressed that if this row is settled, he would sign as early as tomorrow.

"This is what I asked the club for, three years of contract. If you give me that, I'll get the pen and sign the contract tomorrow," he said.

However, the only thing missing from what Willian wants is the money involved. Chelsea has not been spared from the financial crisis brought in by the coronavirus, hinting that there could be some adjustments on his wage rate.

Hence, a three-year deal may be given but with lower pay. So far, he has not mentioned anything related to it. But if the offered wage is unreasonable, then a new problem could arise.

Regardless, Willian does have options but will skim through them carefully. A team that recently pitched an offer is Inter Miami. David Beckham's club offered him a three-year deal where he would earn $125,000 a week until 2023. But the problem seen there is that Willian would prefer to stay in Europe.

Other teams in pursuit include Tottenham, Manchester United and Arsenal F.C.
