  • Chelsea is preparing to hand a new deal to Mason Mount
  • Thomas Tuchel praises the midfielder for his dedication and development as a player
  • Mount and Lukaku will be leading the club's Champions League bid

Chelsea is enjoying a successful start to their English Premier League season and is set to reward midfielder Mason Mount with a massive contract.

90MIN's Graeme Baily reports that Chelsea is in contact with Mount’s group, including his father Tony Mount, to renew his current deal.

The midfielder signed his most recent contract two years ago, and the latest extension will see Mount’s wages double from around £75,000 ($103,824) to around £150,000 ($207,648) per week.

He still has three years remaining on his current deal, and Chelsea is looking to secure the future leader of their midfielder group with this extension.

Mount has become an important piece of Chelsea’s puzzle and has only continued to improve year after year under former manager Frank Lampard and current manager Thomas Tuchel.

The German is extremely happy with Mount’s progress as a person and a player for the Stamford Bridge side and has praised the 22-year-old midfielder in the past.

"He (Mount) is incredibly talented and even more importantly, he has the personality at a very young age to keep his feet on the ground, to arrive every day with a smile on his face,” said Tuchel.

"Mason (Mount) is simply happy to be out there on the pitch and playing football. It doesn't make a difference if he is playing short-sided games, or four against four or if he plays out there in boxes.”

Bailey also mentioned that there is yet to be a formal offer sent to Mount’s side, but it is expected that a deal can be worked out by the end of the year since both sides are very much willing to get a deal in place.

The England international midfielder first joined the club when he was six and keeping him on their side has remained at the top of their priority list.

Chelsea had themselves a great transfer window after they brought back Romelu Lukaku from Italian side Internazionale, who has been their best player on offense this season.

Mount and Lukaku’s partnership will be front and center as they begin their UEFA Champions League bid in Group H by welcoming Zenit St Petersburg to Stamford Bridge on September 15.
