Chelsea 'Really Really Want' To Sign PSG's $66M Young Center-Back: Details
KEY POINTS
- Presnel Kimpembe rose through the youth ranks at PSG
- He made his senior debut with the Ligue 1 side in the 2014-15 term
- The center-back is contracted with PSG until 2024
Chelsea are reportedly interested in signing Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) defender Presnel Kimpembe in the ongoing summer window.
Kimpembe, who is contracted with PSG until 2024, played under Thomas Tuchel at Parc des Princes in the past. Tuchel is keen to reunite with the French center-back at Chelsea, according to journalist Dean Jones, who has a credible record in European soccer.
The journalist claimed that the Stamford Bridge side is desperate to land Kimpembe, who still has to be convinced to move to London.
"Kimpembe is a guy that they really, really want. At the moment, they're not convinced, wholly, that he wants to leave PSG, and you can understand that," Jones told GiveMeSport.
Chelsea has completed the signing of Kalidou Koulibaly from Napoli, but Tuchel still needs another center-back as the side lost both Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen on free transfers to Real Madrid and FC Barcelona respectively.
Moreover, even Cesar Azpilicueta's future in London is also in doubt. While Seville's Jules Kounde has been one of Chelsea's targets, Chelsea now "really really want" to secure a deal for 26-year-old Kimpembe.
Kimpembe rose through the youth ranks at PSG before making his senior debut with the Ligue 1 side during the 2014-15 season. He made 41 appearances for PSG in all competitions last term, netting two goals and providing an assist.
Overall, Kimpembe has spent eight seasons at PSG, making 221 competitive appearances for the Paris-based club.
Chelsea and PSG are in talks regarding Kimpembe's transfer. Since he has a contract until 2024, PSG are demanding an asking price anywhere between $61 million and $66 million. However, Chelsea are prepared to pay between $46 million and $51 million, according to Fabrizio Romano, who has a credible record in the European transfer market.
Even though PSG consider Kimpembe a part of their project for the upcoming campaign, the club will allow the defender to leave if they receive a good proposal.
Chelsea will kickstart the 2022-23 Premier League with a trip to Merseyside. They will take on Everton at Goodison Park on Aug. 6. PSG will begin their Ligue 1 campaign against Clermont Foot 63 on Aug. 7.
