  • Chelsea reportedly wants to sign another rising star, Kai Havertz, after securing Timo Werner

  • Chelsea reportedly lost interest in Philippe Coutinho

Premier League contender Chelsea is reportedly planning to sign another rising star after securing a deal for Timo Werner.

The race to sign RB Leipzig ace Werner could be just days away from completion. The German star has reportedly agreed to a five-year deal for £200,000 a week ($254,000) with Chelsea. Reports claimed that Frank Lampard's side is close to sealing Werner’s deal for around £53 million ($67.4 million).

After landing Werner, The Daily Mail reported that the Blues are looking to step up their pursuit of Bayer Leverkusen rising star Kai Havertz. Like Werner, Havertz is also a German international who is currently priced at an estimated £75 million ($95.4 million).

The outlet further claimed that Chelsea originally targeted Leicester left-back Ben Chilwell as one of their next notable signings after Werner. However, it has now been revealed that Blues will be competing with Manchester United in luring Havertz.

Aside from Man United, LaLiga giant Real Madrid has already been heavily linked to a move for the German attacker and was considered the favorite before Chelsea emerged as a suitor.

Liverpool, on the other hand, badly missed out on Werner despite making a great offer. Following the failed deal, the Reds revealed that the only worthy replacement for Werner at the moment is Havertz.

Havertz has been regarded as one of the most promising youngsters in Europe today. The 20-year-old has developed into a versatile striker since breaking into the Leverkusen first team roughly four years ago. This season, Havertz has been in his best form and has continued his impressive run since Bundesliga returned from hiatus. In the last two seasons, Havertz has achieved a total of 28 goals and is now the youngest player in Bundesliga to make 50 and 100 league appearances.

Meanwhile, Chelsea is reportedly also planning to back out from its pursuit of Barcelona midfielder Philippe Coutinho. It has been previously reported that Barca has been looking for a club to deal Coutinho with.

The Blues were the early favorites to sign the exiting Barcelona star, but according to a recent report from ESPN (via Besoccer.com), Lampard’s side seems to have lost interest in the Brazilian. Despite the decrease in his chances of joining Chelsea, the report stated that the Premier League is still his most likely destination. Chelsea is expected to spend big this summer, but Coutinho will reportedly not be included in the club’s transfer list.
