  • Chelsea is being linked to a transfer swoop for Porto's Luis Diaz
  • The Blues are expected to race against Tottenham in signing Diaz
  • The winger's agent had earlier hinted at a possible transfer

Chelsea is looking to add another attacker before the transfer window closes but would have to beat Tottenham in a potential bidding war.

The Blues are already enjoying the services of world-class striker Romelu Lukaku.

However, it appears that Thomas Tuchel’s side is not yet done intensifying its attacking prowess and has found another possible addition in FC Porto’s Luis Diaz, Portuguese outlet Maisfutebol reported.

International Business Times could not independently verify this information.

Diaz is currently a “target of interest” amongst English Premier League clubs, including Chelsea, the report said.

An offer is expected to be made by the Blues but the report stated that Tottenham will also vie for the winger’s signature.

The two English clubs began “closely” monitoring Diaz’s situation after the 24-year-old impressed in this year’s Copa America tournament, having tied Lionel Messi’s tally of four goals, the report added.

Despite Porto ensuring that Diaz will not be sold for a cheap price by injecting an €80 million ($94 million) release clause in his contract, the possibility of his transfer is gaining ground as the report also said his agent Carlos Van Strahalen has already been traveling across Europe with England believed to be his current location.

Prior to the latest update on Diaz, Van Strahalen hinted at Porto’s openness to the idea of letting his client go this summer.

"Clearly, with the great Copa América that Luis [Diaz] did, the interest of the clubs has increased, but at the moment there is nothing concrete and the player continues to enjoy his holidays with his family and friends,” Van Strahalen said last month.

"Since before the Copa there were several clubs closely following Luis's process thanks to the good numbers he has registered in his two seasons in Portugal, but it is not a secret that after the tournament interest has increased, but they have been just approaches,” he continued. "I don't know anything about Barcelona at the moment."

As it stands, Chelsea and Tottenham are the two favorite landing spots of Diaz should Porto pushes through with a sale.

While both clubs are highly capable of signing expensive players, the Spurs are likely to be more eager to pursue Diaz, having been said to be keeping tabs on the player for years.

Diaz is continuing where he left off at the Primeira Liga this season as he has already notched two goals in Porto’s first three league matches.
