  • Thomas Tuchel led Chelsea to UCL glory last season
  • Chelsea have qualified for quarters of UCL in 2021-22
  • Man Utd have Rangnick as their interim boss until season end

Manchester United are reportedly monitoring Chelsea head coach Thomas Tuchel’s situation at the Stamford Bridge club.

With the 2021-22 season nearing its end, the Red Devils are looking to intensify their search for their new manager. They have added Tuchel, along with Sevilla’s Julen Lopetegui on their list, reported The Guardian.

Tuchel’s future at Chelsea as of now is unpredictable, considering the club’s predicament.

Manchester United currently have an interim head coach in Ralf Rangnick, who is set to enter a consultancy role next season. The German boss has a close association with his compatriot Tuchel and the Old Trafford side wants to rope in Tuchel if he is available at the end of the 2021-22 campaign, according to Daily Mail reporter Chris Wheeler. However, International Business Times, could not verify it independently.

Last week, Rangnick said that it made no sense to link Tuchel with Manchester United before adding that the Chelsea boss is a “top manager,” according to Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano.

Tuchel took just four months to win the Champions League following his arrival at Stamford Bridge last season. That happened five months after he had guided Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) to the final for the first time. Since then, Chelsea have lifted the Club World Cup and UEFA Super Cup under Tuchel, as well as reached the finals of the FA Cup and Carabao Cup.

Even though Tuchel’s first season at Chelsea has not been that great, the Blues are still at No. 3 in the Premier League table and have qualified for the quarters of the Champions League.

Meanwhile, Manchester United were knocked out of the top European competition by Atletico Madrid last week. In addition, Mauricio Pochettino, who is also a target of the Red Devils, recently saw his side PSG get eliminated from the Champions League.

In the 2021-22 Premier League, both Chelsea and Manchester United are not in the title race. Chelsea are 10 points behind second-placed Liverpool FC and 11 behind leaders Manchester City; whereas, the Red Devils are not even in the top four as of now.
