Chelsea's latest summer signing Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang says he has "some unfinished business with the Premier League."

The Blues signed Aubameyang from FC Barcelona at around $12 million in the final hours of the summer transfer window Thursday. The move marked Aubameyang's return to the Premier League. He previously represented Arsenal and even captained the Gunners.

"I'm really happy. It's an honor to be part of this team and I can't wait to start. I have some unfinished business with the Premier League so it's good to be back and really exciting," Aubameyang was quoted by BBC Sport.

Aubameyang was released from Arsenal in the January window and he joined Barcelona as a free agent. Even though he played just 23 competitive games for his new club in the 2021-22 season, the Gabonese forward finished as Barcelona's joint-top scorer, along with Memphis Depay, with 13 goals.

"Barcelona publicly expresses its gratitude to Aubameyang for his professionalism, commitment, dedication and ever-present positive and warm approach regarding every aspect involving the Club. We wish him the best of fortune and every success in the future. Your smile radiated happiness both on and off the pitch, thank you. Barça will always be your home," read an official statement from the Catalans.

After losing Romelu Lukaku and Timo Werner this summer, Thomas Tuchel was in the market toward the end of the 2022 window with an aim to strengthen his attack. Aubameyang has joined Chelsea on a two-year deal and the move has reunited him with his former boss. The two previously worked together at Borussia Dortmund.

Aubameyang, who was No. 17 at Barcelona, has been offered the No. 9 shirt at Chelsea, according to a press release from the club. The Gabon national previously donned No. 9 during his time at Saint Etienne and Dijon in France.

The 33-year-old forward spent four-and-a-half seasons at Arsenal, where he scored 92 goals and provided 21 assists in 163 appearances. He was also a part of the Emirates side that won the FA Cup in the 2019-20 season and the Community Shield trophy in 2020.

Meanwhile, Chelsea left-back Marcos Alonso has terminated his contract mutually with the Stamford Bridge side. The Spanish defender is expected to join Barcelona for the 2022-23 campaign.
