Cher Explains Her Decision To Quit Lifetime’s Movie ‘Flint’ After Approaching Producers
Chef will no longer star in Lifetime’s upcoming movie, “Flint,” due to some serious family issues.
In January, Cher has signed on to not only appear in the project, but to also executive produce it. But this week, she has confirmed that she is no longer affiliated with the film. Cher released a statement exclusively to Deadline explaining her decision to quit.
“This has been a project so near and dear to my heart and I was truly looking forward to helping tell this story. Unfortunately, I will be unable to leave Los Angeles during the scheduled filming as I’m dealing with a serious family issue that prevents me from going on location for the April filming. I am so glad that executive producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron plan to move ahead and I know this Lifetime movie will be done beautifully,” she said.

According to TV Line, “Flint” would have been Cher’s first dramatic movie role since appearing in the 1996 film “If These Walls Could Talk.” The abortion-rights movie gained Cher a Golden Globe nomination. As of late, the actress’ role in the Flint, Michigan water crisis-centered movie has not yet been recast.
“Flint” was written by Barbara Stepansky and was inspired by a story that was published in TIME magazine. It will be directed by Bruce Beresford. The script is written by Mark Nicholson and Stepansky. The latter also serves as executive producer.
Meanwhile, Cher has been very active in raising awareness about the water crisis. She has also donated hundreds of water bottles to the Food Bank of Eastern Michigan so that they would be distributed to the residents. Cher herself reached out to the producers to express her desire to be part of the movie after she first read about it, according to Deadline.
As of late, the release date for “Flint” has not yet been announced.
