Chicago Cubs Prospect Held On Bond After Arrest For Possession Of Methamphetamine, Oxycodone
A Chicago Cubs minor league player was arrested in Colorado on drug-related charges and is still being held on bond at Eagle County Jail following a traffic stop.
The incident took place on Wednesday when Jesus Camargo-Corrales was pulled over by Eagle County Sheriff’s Office deputies for speeding and veering into another lane, according to Bleacher Report.
Camargo is currently being held in the county jail under a $75,000 bond. At the time of his arrest, deputies found a suspected 21 pounds of methamphetamine and 1.2 pounds of oxycodone.
When deputies initially approached Camargo’s vehicle, they asked if there were any drugs in the car, Radio.com reports. Camargo stated there were no drugs in the car and insisted he followed an anti-doping policy as a professional baseball player.
Camargo allowed deputies to search his car. However, Zane, a member of the Eagle County K-9 unit, alerted authorities to something suspicious in the back seat.
A Chicago Cubs duffle bag containing cleats, baseball gloves, two green packages, packaged bags of a white substance, and $1,000 cash in a bag that was believed to be coated in essential oils, was uncovered.
Camargo claimed a friend was supposed to pay him $500 to deliver the bag to Denver. He admitted to knowing there were drugs in the bag but was not certain what types of narcotics he was transporting.
The athlete was traveling with two other passengers, but deputies eventually let them go after determining they were unaware of the drugs stored in the car.
Camargo has been signed as an undrafted free agent with the Chicago Cubs since December 2014 and has since played on minor league affiliate teams.
