‘Chicago Med’: Torrey DeVitto Gushes About Will-Natalie Romance, Teases Returning Character
Ahead of this week’s “Chicago Med” Season 3 installment, actress Torrey DeVitto has opened up about the romance between her character Natalie Manning to Nick Gehlfuss’ Will Halstead. She also teased about the return of a familiar face in episode 7.
In a recent interview with TV Line, the 33-year-old actress revealed her candid thoughts about doctors Will and Natalie’s kiss at the start of the season of the NBC series. “I love that Natalie was the one, in that kiss, that took the initiative, because I feel like he’d been taking so many initiatives, and she was [hesitant],” she said. “It really worked out well. I feel like everybody wanted it. It was just like, ‘Just get it over with already!’”
The former “Vampire Diaries” actress also talked about the perfect timing of Valerie’s blossoming romance with Halstead in the NBC series. For her, her character had to go through a journey that involved grieving her husband’s death and her brief romance with Jeff Clarke (Jeff Hephner) before finding love with Will. Now that Valerie has let go of the past, DeVitto says, “she’s in a better place, so it was the right timing.”
Interestingly, DeVitto teased that there’s going to be a big conflict that will play out later this season. The actress said the conflict will stem from an argument over how “something should be handled.” And things will blow out of proportion, it seems, since DeVitto added, “It causes a big issue between them.”
While DeVitto was careful enough to not give away the reason of Valerie and Will’s conflict, she disclosed that the problem will lead her character to take a stand as a woman. She gave the biggest hint when she said, “It’s really an interesting and exciting episode, especially with what’s going on in the world right now.” Could it be related to sexual harassment? Fans need to tune in to find out.
Meanwhile, DeVitto also confirmed that a character important to Valerie is going to resurface. “Yes, Owen comes back, finally. I feel like I was getting a lot of tweets like, ‘Where’s your son?’ I was like, ‘Oh, god. He’s at daycare,’” she said. She also gushed about Halstead and his effort to form a bond with Owen, saying, “I don’t think it’s easy for anyone, so that makes it fun, too. But he definitely tries very hard.”
“Chicago Med” airs Tuesdays at 10 p.m. EST on NBC.
