A Chicago woman was arrested Saturday for allegedly shooting and killing her 12-year-old son over a memory card dispute.
The accused, identified as 37-year-old Fallon Harris, confronted her son, Kaden Ingram, at around 10.15 a.m. Saturday with a gun, and asked him about the location of a digital SD card, which she had removed from her vehicle the previous night, said Cook County State’s Attorney, Eugene Wood, reported Chicago Sun-Times.
After Ingram failed to produce the memory card, Harris shot the boy at their home in Bennett Avenue. At that point, Ingram was conscious and Harris went to answer a call. She then walked up to him and asked him for the card again. When Ingram said he did not know where the card was, she shot him again.
Around 10.30 a.m., an unidentified witness found the boy unresponsive with a gunshot wound to his head. Harris had confessed about the shooting to two family members, who then called the police, Chicago Sun-Times reported. The boy was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
Harris confessed to the shooting and led responding officers to a silver gun. She was taken into custody shortly after, said Wood. A home surveillance camera caught the initial conversation and the shooting on video.
Harris has been charged with a single count of first-degree murder, reported WBBM. She is being held without bail, and the judge signed a health care order to allow her evaluation.
According to family members, Harris had shown signs of mental illness and they had urged her to seek professional help.
“We didn’t know that this was going to transpire. We had told her to get help. I guess it finally reached its boiling point,” said Lavell Ingram, her estranged husband and the boy’s father, to the Chicago Sun-Times. “She loved [Kaden] more than anything in the world.”
“I’m losing everything I had in this world. Everything,” added the father of the victim.
