Chicago Women's March Latest Update: Schedule, Route, Start Time And Everything You Need To Know For Saturday Protest
More than 50,000 people are expected to march Saturday through downtown Chicago to show their displeasure with the inauguration of President Donald Trump in one of the largest protests outside Washington, D.C. Organizers of the city's Women's March have twice changed the route of the demonstration to accomodate rising numbers of expected participants.
"Through our march, we send a message to our new administration and to the world that we seek to PROTECT our civil liberties and rights," march organizers wrote on the march website. "We are here to ACTIVATE. Fairness, justice, and equality require rigorous defense and promotion, and are not yet won."
Organizers announced Thursday the latest change to the march's route: it will now start at Columbus Drive just north of Jackson Drive, and then travel west. The march is scheduled to begin at 11:30 a.m., but will be preceded by a rally with musical performances and speakers at Petrillo Bandshell in Chicago’s Grant Park. Ari Afsar, Karen Olivo, and Samantha Marie Ware from the cast of the musical "Hamilton" will both perform and speak at the rally. A full list of speakers and performers can be found here.
The site opens at 8:30 a.m. Pre-rally musical entertainment will start at 9:30 a.m. and the Our Speakers Rally begins at 10 a.m. The march will commence at 11:30 a.m., with Jackson Drive and Columbus Drive remaining closed until 2 p.m.
More than 200,000 people are expected to participate in the Women's March in Washington, D.C. While that march will be the largest demonstration against the incoming Trump era, there are also sister events planned throughout the country. Organizers of the Women's March in New York City are expecting to draw 100,000. Los Angeles is expected to draw 70,000 participants.
