Chiefs vs. Eagles Over/Under: Super Bowl 2023 Betting Total, How Many Points Might Be Scored
The Kansas City Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles could make Super Bowl 2023 one of the NFL's most exciting championship games in recent years. The point spread is less than a field goal, and the Super Bowl over/under indicates that both teams are expected to score in the mid-20s.
The betting total for the Chiefs and Eagles is 50 points at DraftKings Sportsbook. Both FanDuel Sportsbook and BetMGM list the over/under at 49.5 with 13 days until Super Bowl 2023 kicks off.
The Chiefs' team total is 24.5 points at DraftKings. As the slight favorite, the Eagles have a total of 25.5 points.
There are plenty of reasons to expect Super Bowl 2023 to be a back-and-forth, high-scoring game. The Chiefs had the league's best offense during the regular season, ranking first with 413.6 yards and 29.2 points per game. The Eagles' 389.1 yards and 28.1 points per contest were tops in the NFC.
Super Bowl 2023 will feature arguably the top two quarterbacks for the season. Patrick Mahomes is generally regarded as the sport's best signal caller. After throwing for a league-high 5,250 yards and 41 touchdowns, Mahomes is expected to be named the 2022 NFL MVP. Jalen Hurts might finish as the runner-up for the award. In his breakout campaign, Hurts threw for 3,701 yards and 22 touchdowns while adding 760 yards and 13 scores on the ground.
In 19 games this season, the Chiefs have failed to reach the 20-point mark just once. Kansas City has scored at least 23 points in 11 straight games.
The Eagles have scored at least 20 points in 16 of the 17 games that have been started by Hurts. Philadelphia has totaled 69 points in its two playoff wins.
It's possible that the Eagles' defense could limit the effectiveness of the Chiefs' offense. Philadelphia surrendered just seven points in each playoff game. The Eagles gave up a league-low 4.8 yards per play during the regular season. Philadelphia was second in yards allowed. The Eagles gave up 20.2 points per game, good for eighth overall.
In their Super Bowl loss against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers two years ago, the Chiefs were kept completely out of the end zone in a 31-9 defeat. When the Cincinnati Bengals came back in last year's AFC Championship Game to knock the Chiefs out of the playoffs, Kansas City scored three points over the game's final 40 minutes.
The Chiefs ranked 16th in scoring during the regular season, giving up 21.7 points per game. Kansas City has given up exactly 20 points in both of its playoff wins.
The Super Bowl 2023 over/under is higher than the total for last year's big game, which settled at 48.5 points. The total for each of the previous three Super Bowls was well north of 50.
