China Toddler Run Over Twice, Ignored by Several Who Saw Her
A toddler was run over twice in China and then ignored by several people who walked right by her without pausing to help.
A video shows 2-year-old Yue Yue being hit and run over by a white van. People who passed by her at first include a man on foot wearing a white shirt who was inches away from her, as well as a cyclist.
If that was not bad enough, the camera then showed a truck driving over her and more people just passing her by.
The video shows her moving her arms a bit.
Some pause to look, but no one helps, a Sky News reporter noted.
Finally, a female rubbish collector came by and took Yue Yue to the side of the rode, Australia's Herald Sun reported.
The woman tried to learn the girl's identity from local shopkeepers but was told to mind her own business, China Daily reported.
The video then shows another woman running out to the girl. She is presumably the girl's mother, Sky News reported.
The sad episode took place close to the toddler's family's shop in the city of Foshan, located in China's Guangdong province.
Foshan's English government Web site says the city has a population of more than five million, good infrastructure, and is ideally located for travelers, as it is close to Hong Kong and Macao.
A doctor noted that Yue Yue could not breathe on her own when she arrived at the hospital, a Chinese news station reported. A video shot shows the little girl in a hospital bed with her eyes closed and a breathing tube protruding from her mouth.
I wonder if the driver tried to kill my daughter because he thought that by doing so he wouldn't have to pay as much compensation? Yue Yue's father told The South China Morning Post, according to the Herald Sun.
The two drivers who hit Yue Yue were detained by police, Sky News reported.
The Herald Sun has reported that Yue Yue died after going into a coma, while China Daily is reporting that she is showing signs of stability and has regained the ability to take weak breaths with the help of respirator.
People all over the world took to Twitter to express their outrage over the little girl being run over twice and then ignored.
Pedestrians in China get no respect, one person tweeted. Saw with my own eyes how cars beat walkers to intersections. It's a shame what happened to toddler.
Feel sick after seeing this hit-and-run in China, tweeted another. Toddler ignored by about 20 people passing and even run over again!
