Chinese First Lady Peng Liyuan Has Makeup Mishap At Lord Mayor’s Banquet In London
The first lady of China, Peng Liyuan, had an embarrassing makeup mishap during a high-profile dinner held on Wednesday. The Chinese premier and his wife attended the Lord Mayor’s banquet as part of her husband Xi Jinping’s historic state visit to the U.K.
The event was hosted by London’s Lord Mayor, Alderman Alan Yarrow. Prince Andrew also attended the event.
Peng Liyuan, who is dubbed the Chinese Kate Middleton, was attending the dinner with her husband Xi Jinping. But, unfortunately she had a makeup mishap at the high-profile banquet that was held at Guildhall in London on Wednesday. When Peng arrived for the dinner, it appeared that the former famous folk singer had a bad makeup day.
The fashion conscious first lady appeared to have unsightly white powder on her forehead and nose. There was something odd with her foundation. Loose silica powder was reportedly the reason behind her makeup fail.
The powder can help absorb oil and control shine -- but if too much is applied it can really stand out in photographs. Unfortunately, the powder is of such quality that if too much is applied, it can only be caught by the flashing camera. Meanwhile her husband also had a fashion fail, with his trousers appearing to be a little too long. He also failed to impress by his speech at the banquet.
Liyuan was a star in her own right before her wedding to Jinping. The 52-year-old soprano, who was known by the nickname Peony Fairy in her home country, was dressed to the nines for her state banquet held in Buckingham Palace on Tuesday.
She chose a midnight blue high-necked silk gown cinched at the waist with a belt for the occasion. She accessorized with pearl and diamond drop earrings and brooch. Liyuan looked sophisticated beside Kate Middleton for the dinner.
Earlier in the day she was dressed up in a white suit for the ceremonial welcome in Horse Guards Parade. The couple traveled in the Diamond Jubilee Stage Coach along with Queen Elizabeth II.
On Wednesday, British prime minister David Cameron entertained Jinping and his wife at his Buckinghamshire country retreat. The Chinese first couple went to Chequers to dine with Cameron and his wife Samantha.
