Chinese TV used footage from “Top Gun” during broadcast about air force training exercise
China's state broadcast company apparently used footage from a famous Hollywood movie in a news report allegedly about the country’s air force.
A segment on China Central Television (CCTV) from January 23 showed an explosion that was very similar to a scene from the 1986 Tom Cruise film “Top Gun.”
The news story purported to be about a training exercise undertaken by the People's Liberation Army's air force and included interviews with senior military figures.
As pictures of fighter jets appeared on screen, the TV reporter informed viewers that they were watching a live-fire exercise and that all targets had been hit. One particular segment showed a pilot firing a missile, followed by another plane getting hit and then erupting into flames.
A few observers posted comments on the Internet that the scene looked like it was taken from the Top Gun movie.
