Chipotle Tests Advanced Technology To Improve Order Creation, Enhance Customer Experience
Chipotle Mexican Grill will test two new advanced technologies to improve operations, the company said Tuesday in a press release.
The advanced technology includes a kitchen management system powered by AI and machine learning. It predicts demand-based cooking and ingredient preparation forecasts.
The technology will be tested at eight restaurants in Orange County, California.
Another technology involves customers using the chain's app to get real-time date to better utilize "order readiness messaging, wrong pick-up location detection, reminders to scan the Chipotle Rewards QR code at checkout," among other tools. This technology is being tested at 73 locations in Cleveland.
"Empowering our restaurants with advanced technologies is critical for operational excellence and better positions our teams for our ambitious growth plans," Scott Boatright, Chief Restaurant Officer at Chipotle, said in a press release.
The AI kitchen management system will be powered by PreciTaste.
"The new kitchen management system has alleviated manual tasks for our crew and given restaurant managers the tools they need to make informed in the moment decisions, ultimately enabling them to focus on an exceptional culinary and an outstanding guest experience," Curt Garner, Chief Technology Officer at Chipotle, said in the press release.
In March, Chipotle announced it was testing "Chippy, the AI Kitchen Assistant," a robot that makes chips on its own to reduce tasks for employees.
Chipotle was founded in 1993. The Newport Beach, California-based company has about 3,000 locations.
