Chlöe Bailey Hits Out At Haters: 'I Like How You Can't Criticize My Singing'
Chlöe Bailey has clapped back at haters who criticize her song renditions, including her latest cover of Minnie Riperton's 1975 hit, "Lovin' You."
The 23-year-old rising star confidently addressed her bashers Monday, saying it's actually a "compliment" that they cannot fault her with her vocal skills.
"I like how you can't criticize my singing or who i am as an artist, so people find something else to find…that's a compliment," she noted in a tweet.
The remark of the singer, who forms half of the Chlöe x Halle musical duo, came after some fans criticized her sultry cover of Riperton's classic hit.
The "Forgive Me" artist uploaded her own version of "Lovin' You" on her Instagram page Monday. In the said clip, which has so far garnered nearly 900,000 views, Bailey could be seen wearing a sexy purple outfit that perfectly matched the sensual moves she made during the performance.
While many fans praised her for her "clean" take on the song, some netizens were simply unsatisfied with it. There were many who called it "so sexual." One person even said the singer "over-sexualizes everything she does."
It wasn't the first time Bailey received flak for covering a classic hit. She was also criticized last summer for her rendition of Nina Simone's "Feeling Good."
Viewers slammed the singer for her sexy choreography, noting that it overshadowed her amazing vocals.
Simone's granddaughter, ReAnna Simone Kelly, came to the rescue and defended Bailey from her critics, noting: "What y'all don't understand is that grandma was a free spirited woman herself!! She would've loved that performance as much as I do! Relax. Chloe killed it."
Recently, the "Have Mercy" artist revealed she hates it when people make comparisons between her and her sister, Halle, who is also currently pursuing solo projects outside Chlöe x Halle.
"It is the most shallow, most disturbing thing," she said. "It was very off-putting to know how people would try to put two young Black sisters who love their craft so much and love each other so much, how they try to pit them against each other just because they’re different in some ways."
