Pretty scary or scarily pretty was the choice revelers had to make after the Chris Benz presentation on Monday at Avery Fisher Hall at Lincoln Center during Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in New York. The recipient of the 2004 CFDA Emerging Designer Award and designer known for colors as bright as his vibrant pink hair told IBTimes after the presentation that the collection was inspired by the 1960's hit television show, "The Munsters."
"The inspiration was really an experimentation between scary and pretty," Benz said. "A lot of the elements really combine the things people love about Marilyn Munster, for example. It was a very counterpointed collection, a mixing of inspirations." This mix of inspirations resulted in a poppy florals and brights of yellow, green and ivory paired with highly-stylized boxy silhouettes creating a bag-lady chic vibe. Aside from his collection, Benz is a busy designer having just completed a project for Barbie where he designed the outfit worn by the Barbie For President 2012 doll. Benz also has a holiday collective deal with eBay in the works, with a convenient travel kit for jet-setting fashonistas on the run.
"We did a little capsule collection thats all travel things that you like to take on the plane with you," Benz said, admitting that now he will focus on getting "started on Fall 13."
The Chris Benz show was attended by a slew of celebrities from Susan Sarandon, Paula Abdul, and Vanessa Williams to E! "Fashion Police" hosts Kelly Osbourne and Joan Rivers.
