Chris' D'Elia will no longer be part of Zack Snyder's zombie movie, "Army of the Dead," with "Star Trek: Discovery actress" Tig Notaro stepping in to reshoot his scenes.
Production decided to recast D'Elia's character following the allegations that he sexually harassed underage girls. The Netflix movie had completed shooting and was already in post-production before the COVID-19 pandemic hit in March.
"Army of the Dead" will undergo reshoots and use green screens, CGI and other special effects to add Notaro to the feature, Variety reported.
"Army of the Dead," which also stars Dave Bautista, Ella Purnell Ana De La Reguera, is set in a zombie outbreak and focuses on a band of military mercenaries who plan a heist on a Vegas casino.
The upcoming movie is considered a "spiritual sequel" to Snyder's 2004 movie "Dawn of the Dead." Snyder produced the film under his company Stone Quarry and co-wrote the screenplay with Shay Hatten and Joby Harold.
After D'Elia was accused of sexual misconduct by multiple women, some as young as 16, back in June, he was dropped by Creative Artists Agency and his "Workaholics" episode was pulled from Netflix.
Whitney Cummings, who co-starred in sitcom "Whitney" with D'Elia for two seasons, didn't hide her dismay toward her fellow standup comedian when his sexual misconduct allegations surfaced.
"It’s taken me a couple of days to process the information I have learned about Chris," a message she shared on Twitter read. "I’m devastated and enraged by what I’ve read and learned."
"This is a pattern of predatory behavior," she added. "This abuse of power is enabled by silence. Now that I’m aware, I won’t be silent. Girls should be able to be a fan of a comedian they admire without becoming a sexual target. It’s the adult’s responsibility to be an adult."
However, Cummings' post backfired because of her close relationship with D'Elia, with netizens expressing skepticism regarding her claim that she had been not aware of his behavior.
One alleged victim claimed that D'Elia introduced her to Cummings, Mark Hayes, Michael Lenoci and Bryan Callen and that they had asked her age. When she told them she was 20, they laughed while saying, "They just keep getting younger."
