Christian Lee Vows To Take Out Ok Rae Yoon Quickly And Decisively In Rematch
KEY POINTS
- Christian Lee is determined to regain the ONE lightweight title
- Lee was defeated by Ok Rae Yoon by unanimous decision in September 2021
- Lee is searching for a decisive finish against Ok this time around
ONE Championship’s lightweight division has been one of the promotion’s most exciting brackets in its history, and another chapter will be added when Christian Lee rematches Ok Rae Yoon for the lightweight title on August 26.
Lee has never been fully able to let go of the grudge that he has had with the South Korean after losing the belt to him in a unanimous decision loss at ONE: Revolution in September 2021.
“The Warrior” wholeheartedly believed that the judges unjustly awarded the win and the title to OK despite the latter being seen by most fans as the rightful winner.
With a renewed focus on the rematch, Lee is dead set on taking what he sees as rightfully his.
“I definitely believe that I’m going to win this fight. If it is a close decision I can see how they can set up a trilogy fight, but if the fight goes how I plan on it going – I’m going to take him out quick and finish him – then there’s going to be no need for a rematch,” Lee stated in a recent interview.
Lee’s main argument for being the winner of the first fight was that he did more damage to Ok and that his multiple attempts at finishing the fight via submission should have been enough to sway the decision in his favor.
However, the judges saw it in a completely different light though as Ok was able to masterfully escape his submission attempts while also being effective in the striking game.
“If you look at ONE Championship’s scoring criteria, I won in every area. If we go on near finish and you go on the damage done – I broke his orbital in the first round, I dropped him big in the third round, and I came close to getting two submissions. That really speaks for itself,” Lee explained.
“In my opinion, I still won the fight, but I’m definitely not going to go into the [rematch] with the same game plan.”
Lee understandably did not divulge his game plan against Ok, but it certainly seems like he has learned from his mistakes from their first match and will possibly be more careful in managing his gas tank against Ok.
The rematch will take place at ONE 160 on August 26 at 6:30 PM SGT (6:30 AM ET in the United States).
