Christina Aguilera Wants to ‘Do Lunch’ With Estranged Father, Answers Questions about Latina Roots
Christina Aguilera, popular power ballad singer and judge on The Voice, has revealed in Latina Magazine that she wants to reconnect with her estranged father.
Aguilera, who's 31 and recently had a child, admitted to being physically and emotionally abused by her farther; nonetheless, the pop icon would ike the rebuild her relationship with her dad, Fausto Aguilera.
I've talked about how rough things were for me and I'm sure he's heard it, said Christina in her interview with Latina. He can't be thrilled about it. So maybe one day we can do lunch...I'm 31 years old now. Maybe it's time.
The singer has previously spoken about her father's controlling and abusive conduct. In an interview with E!, Aguilera said, I witnessed a lot of unpleasant things--a lot of pushing and shoving and fighting and quarrelling. Growing up I did not feel safe. Feeling powerless is the worst feeling in the world. I turned to singing as an outlet. The pain at home is where my love for music came from.
Aguilera touches on several other topics in the interview with Latina Magazine including getting married at a young age, growing older, how she handles brutal reviews and criticism of not being Latina enough.
I've dealt with that my whole life, she said. I don't speak the language fluently. And I'm split right down the middle, half Irish and half Ecuadorean. I should not have to prove my ethnicity to anyone. I know who I am.
