Hallmark’s new Hall of Fame movie, “Christmas Everlasting,” which premieres Saturday night, marks the first time a Hallmark Christmas movie has had black romantic leads.

Taking on those roles are Tatyana Ali, who’s also starring in her third Lifetime Christmas movie Sunday night, and Dondre T. Whitfield, who was in TVOne’s 2016 holiday flick, “The Christmas Swap.” The Hallmark film also stars Dennis Haysbert, Patti LaBelle, Alyshia Ochse and Shi Ne Nielson.

"Just before Christmas, Lucy (Ali) returns to her hometown after the passing of her beloved sister,” the synopsis begins. “Because of a clause in her sister’s will, Lucy stays through the holidays and sees glimpses of her sister’s joyful life that help relieve guilt she had long harbored about an accident that left her sister with cognitive difficulties. She celebrates the holidays with her Uncle Barney (Haysbert), meets her sister’s close friends – the ‘FOA’ (Friends of Alice) – and reunites with her high school love, Peter (Whitfield).”

While attending a Christmas party hosted by his mother, Mrs. Swinson (LaBelle), Peter shares a secret from Lucy’s sister’s past. After hearing this news, Lucy’s unsure about what do to with it. Plus, she feels hurt that Peter kept this information from her all these years.

As Christmas gets closer, Lucy must choose how to handle this revelation about her sister, as well as if she’s going to stay in her hometown with Peter and her new friends permanently.

Catch the Hallmark Hall of Fame premiere of “Christmas Everlasting” on Saturday on Hallmark Channel at 8 p.m. EST.
