Christopher Nolan’s upcoming thriller movie “Tenet” has been delayed indefinitely by Warner Bros. after the studio decided to remove the film from its calendar. Meanwhile, the next movie in “The Conjuring” franchise has also received a new release date amid the pandemic.
In a press release obtained by Variety, Toby Emmerich, chairman of WB, revealed that the new release date will be “shared” imminently for Nolan’s “mind-blowing” feature film. He further stated that the decision has been taken to “ensure” that their movies continue to be successful when they hit the theaters.
“We will share a new 2020 release date imminently for ‘Tenet,’ Christopher Nolan’s wholly original and mind-blowing feature. Our goals throughout this process have been to ensure the highest odds of success for our films while also being ready to support our theater partners with new content as soon as they could safely reopen,” Emmerich said in a statement.
“Tenet” was originally scheduled to hit theaters on July 17, but due to the global health crisis, the management decided to push the movie back for two weeks.
The movie stars John David Washington in the lead role and the cast also includes Robert Pattinson, Kenneth Branagh, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Elizabeth Debicki, Michael Caine, Clemence Poesy, Himesh Patel, and Dimple Kapadia in pivotal roles.
The studio also announced that the upcoming movie in the “Conjuring” universe has also been pushed back due to the global health crisis. The film, which was originally scheduled to hit the screens in September 2020, will now be released on June 4, 2021. The next installment, entitled “The Devil Made Me Do It,” will once again see Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson reprising their respective roles of paranormal investigators Lorraine and Ed Warren.
“We are grateful for the support we’ve received from exhibitors and remain steadfast in our commitment to the theatrical experience around the world. Unfortunately, the pandemic continues to proliferate, causing us to reevaluate our release dates,” the studio said in a statement.
Meanwhile, movies such as “Wonder Woman 1984” and “Dune” are still going ahead with their 2020 release dates. The upcoming DCEU movie will be coming out on Oct. 2 while Denis Villeneuve’s film remake is still scheduled to arrive on Dec. 18.
