CIA Web Site Hacked, Anonymous Claims Responsibility
Anonymous, the shady hackers' group, has apparently attacked the Web site of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA).
The site went offline since Friday night even as Anonymous posted messages on its Twitter page claiming that the URL was hacked. CIA TANGO DOWN, read one of the tweets. Another one read: CIA Tango Down: Anonymous strikes again.
The site (https://www.cia.gov/) was still not loading as of 1:15am GMT Saturday. We are looking into these reports, a CIA spokeswoman told the AFP.
The CIA Web site is the latest target in a series of organized hackings, mostly aimed at western law enforcement agencies. The Web sites of the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security were also broken into recently.
OnGuardOnline.gov, the U.S. government's anti-scam Web site, and sites of Mexico's senate and the interior ministry also fell victim to hacktivists' attacks in the recent weeks.
The United Nations Web site too went offline earlier Friday. But it was unclear if Anonymous or any other hackers' group is behind the crashing of the site.
