Cinco de Mayo

Cinco de Mayo, a Mexican holiday, is celebrated annually to honor the Battle of Puebla that took place on May 5, 1862. During the battle, also known as El Dia de la Batalla de Puebla, the Mexican soldiers overthrew the French troops despite being outnumbered.

Despite being a Mexican holiday, Cinco de Mayo is celebrated more in the United States, especially in regions where there is more of Mexican-American population. The largest celebration occurs in Los Angeles with over 300,000 people showing up at the event.
