Cinnabon Sells Signature Cream Cheese Frosting On Apps
Baked-goods chain Cinnabon announced on Tuesday that its popular cream cheese frosting will be available to be purchased by the pint. Cinnabon is selling the frosting for $5.99 at its U.S. stores and through food delivery apps.
In a post on Instagram, the company wrote, “Like our frosting? You’ll LOVE our NEW limited-edition Signature Frosting Pint! Available starting TODAY in our bakeries and with delivery.”
In a press release, Karyn Sarago, chief marketing officer for Cinnabon, suggested that the offering came in response to increased interest in baking amid the pandemic.
“More so this year and especially during the holidays, cooking at home and enjoying meals together are central to how families are spending their time," Sarago said.
"Cinnabon fans know our signature frosting makes our classic cinnamon rolls and holiday favorite PecanBon cinnamon roll oh-so-craveable – and now fans can bring that same frosting home as the perfect accompaniment to holiday cooking, baking and holiday movie watching, to enhance the simple pleasures, smells, tastes and homemade love that make this time of year so special,” Sarago added.
"An important part of our strategy for some time now has been extending the brand in craveable ways so that we can be a part of consumers' lives in as many ways as possible," Kristen Hartman, Cinnabon's president, told CNN Business.
The Atlanta-based chain was founded in 1985 and has over 1,200 locations.
Cinnabon’s website also released a series of recipes to use with the frosting, including frosting-filled cookies, frosting-swirled brownies, and frosting-topped sweet potatoes. Cinnabon's website also states that the pints of frosting will be available “only during the holidays” and are available for delivery.
The pint is the latest extension for Cinnabon, which focuses its business model on in-store shopping. However, due to COVID-19 foot traffic at various locations has dropped drastically.
"Their strategy revolves around transportation hubs, and they've been extremely hard hit," Morningstar analyst RJ Hottovy told CNN Business. He added that the latest Cinnabon products aren't going to "completely replace in-restaurant sales, but it's a way to branch out, find new channels, and keep awareness about it."
Cinnabon isn’t the only company releasing new items in time for the holidays.
On Twitter, Oreo announced a new way to customize its cookie called Oreo ID. According to Oreo's website, customers can upload personal photos to be printed on the cookies, along with personal messages.
