Circulating Video Imploring MayPac 2 Is An Old Video According to Floyd Mayweather Jr.
Mayweather Jr. has shot down rumors of him fighting Manny Pacquiao in Saudi Arabia.
Floyd Mayweather Jr. has again shot down rumors of a rematch against WBA "super" welterweight champ Manny Pacquiao. According to the American boxer, the video circulating online exploring the possibility of MayPac 2 in Saudi Arabia was taken nine months ago.
In the viral video, Floyd is seen talking about taking a trip to Saudi Arabia to meet with interested parties on hosting Mayweather-Pacquiao 2. The former undisputed champ quickly denied his previous claims. On a commentary made by Fight Hype, "Money" reiterated that the video is an old clip taken when he went to the middle eastern country months ago.
He said that the video you all been seeing is false because I've been going to Saudi Arabia. I went there a long time ago." He added that he talked about possibly fighting there, but they wanted me to "say Manny Pacquiao specifically."
Mayweather verified that the video was recorded almost nine months ago to hype his visit to Saudi Arabia. He also mentioned that the party that he sat with was also interested in bringing different events to the Muslim state.
Mayweather and Pacquiao fought in 2015 after years of negotiations. Jr. won the fight via unanimous decision, and the match was billed as the richest bout in the history of boxing.
Pacquiao, who recently defeated former unbeaten welterweight champ Keith Thurman called out Floyd a month ago for a rematch. The two were embroiled in a highly publicized social media spat, but the hype surrounding the rematch has faded up until the viral video resurfaced.
Earlier, Mayweather has set the record straight and said the video is irrelevant, adding that there are no active negotiations for a rematch. "At the end of the day, there are no talks about me and Manny Pacquiao fighting a rematch," quipped the American pugilist.
MP Promotions president Sean Gibbons told Philstar on Monday (PT) that Manny "is not aware of anything." The Filipino icon has said before that he plans to take the rest of the year off and he plans to have three more fights before retiring.
He will reportedly come back in the ring in 2020, probably against the winner of Spence versus Porter match in September. His camp has also iterated that Manny wants to fight either Danny Garcia or Mikey Garcia next year.
