‘Claws’: How Does Niecy Nash Prepare For Sex Scenes On The Show?
Niecy Nash has opened up about her sex scenes on TNT’s “Claws.”
In a recent interview with Salon, Nash revealed that whenever there’s a sex scene, she makes sure that she and her scene partner get the choreography down before stepping in front of the camera.
“If there is a love scene, I usually take the actor to the set, closed door, and work out the choreography,” Nash said. “Then the producers and director come in and take a look at it. We might have to do a few tweaks but most of the time, they’re like, ‘No, cool, got it.’”
But that isn’t the only preparation Nash does. The Emmy-nominated actress, who plays Desna on the show, shared that she also makes sure that she’s mentally prepared before the cameras start rolling.
“The mental preparation is a whole other something, because you have to realize that what you normally do … is super intimate, you got a camera right here, a camera right there,” Nash said. “You gotta suck in, like, ‘Oh, Lord, did I have bread for breakfast?!’ It’s a lot. You’re very vulnerable and you really have a laser focus to push through and make as though nobody else is in the room … beside these 10 or 15 people standing in here with us!”
Nash also talked about her pre-sex scene routine during her July appearance on “The Late Late Show with James Corden.” When Nash mentioned that she and her scene partner learn the choreography of their sex scene behind closed doors, Corden wondered what her scene partner usually say after the rehearsal. “We keep the pants on and learn the choreography, but usually they just say thank you,” Nash said.
In the series premiere of “Claws,” Nash shared a very odd sex scene with her co-star Jack Kesy, in which Nash’s Desna is having a casual conversation with Kesy’s character, Roller, all while making love. When People asked Nash if she’s also a “casual conversation sex talker” like her character, the “Clean House” host said: “I think that particular character rings true for my character, Desna. For me and my husband [Jay Tucker], that’s a whole another something. When you get down to the reel wheel, that’s TV love, but that real love [of mine] — I can’t tell you my secrets.”
“Claws” has already been renewed for Season 2.
