‘Claws’ Renewed For Season 2; Stars Niecy Nash, Carrie Preston And Others React To Season Renewal

The cast of TNT’s new comedy-drama series “Claws” couldn’t be happier after it was announced that the Eliot Laurence –created show is returning for a second season in 2018.

Shortly after it was revealed that the Turner-owned cable network renewed the series for Season 2, series stars Niecy Nash (Desna), Carrie Preston (Polly), Judy Reyes (Quiet Ann), Jenn Lyon (Jennifer), Karrauche Tran (Virginia), Harold Perrineau (Dean), Jason Antoon (Dr. Ken) and Evan Daigle (Toby) all took to social media to address the great news. “Claws” Season 2 renewal was announced by Sarah Aubrey, executive vice president of original programming for TNT, on Wednesday. “Look out Manatee County, these ladies are coming back for more!” Aubrey said in a statement to The Hollywood Reporter. “These strong-willed, hilarious women represent the diverse voices this network is all about. ‘Claws’ has certainly struck a chord with audiences and continues to attract new viewers each week.”

“Claws,” which is executive produced by Laurence, Rashida Jones, Will McCormack, Janine Sherman Barrois and Howard Deutch, is a hit for TNT. In fact, according to Deadline, “Claws” has become the highest-rated TNT series launched since the cable network’s programming shift last year. “Claws” also ranks as basic cable’s No. 4 new drama this year among the advertiser-coveted adults 18-49 demographic, and the No. 4 cable drama in social engagement. Additionally, “Claws” is averaging 6.3 million viewers across the network’s linear, digital, mobile and on-demand platforms, and averaging 1.1 million adults 18-49 with seven days of DVR.

In this week’s Season 1, episode 6, Desna takes Polly, Quiet Ann, Jennifer and Virginia to their dream salon for the first time. But when a group of manicurists seems to belittle their skills as nail technicians, Desna and her crew decide to join a nail-design competition.

Elsewhere in the episode, Dr. Ken notices that someone is surveilling the clinic; Virginia finds herself seeking “life’s finer things”; and Jennifer discovers an “agonizing secret.”

“Claws” Season 1, episode 6, titled “Self-Portrait,” airs on Sunday, July 16 at 9 p.m. EDT on TNT. Watch the trailer for the episode below:
