Baker Mayfield didn’t back down from the comments he made Sunday regarding Hue Jackson. The Cleveland Browns’ quarterback told reporters Wednesday that he stood by what he said about not liking his former head coach taking a job as the Cincinnati Bengals’ special assistant to Marvin Lewis.

“People took it as me personally attacking Hue. That’s not it,” Mayfield said, via Cleveland.com’s Mary Kay Cabot. “It’s the fact that I get to have my own opinion on how it transpired and he gets to do what he wants. That’s how it is. Although I’m an athlete, I’m not a cookie-cutter quarterback. Never have been, never will be. I speak my mind, that’s how I am. I didn’t like the move and people don’t have to care. I’m not looking for anybody’s approval. I don’t regret any of it. It’s about this team and what we have and we have to stick together and play together.”

Mayfield also called Jackson “fake” on Instagram Monday.

After going 2-5-1 this season under Jackson, the Browns have gone 2-1 with Gregg Williams serving as the interim head coach. Cleveland gave themselves a two-game winning streak Sunday when they won in Cincinnati 35-20. Mayfield was outstanding against the Bengals and his former coach, completing 19 of 26 passes for 258 yards, four touchdowns and no interceptions.

Jackson spent 2.5 years as Cleveland’s head coach, going 3-36-1. Shortly after he was fired along with offensive coordinator Todd Haley, Jackson returned to the Bengals, whom he coached for in various roles from 2012-2015.

The Browns visit the Houston Texans in Week 13. The Bengals host the Denver Broncos.

Cleveland is a half-game behind Cincinnati for last place in the AFC North.
