Democrats in the House of Representatives won a key test vote on Friday 217-205 to pass the climate bill, the Associated Press reports today.
The vote advanced the legislation toward a final roll call, the agency said. Thirty Democrats defected, according to AP. A final vote is expected to be made between 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. EST.
The climate bill is aimed to boost the development of clean energy sources in the U.S. and increase commitment from the United States into the fight against global warming.
During the discussions, Republicans urged their party to vote against the bill stating it is an energy tax and would have colossal effects in the country's economy.
