Beverage giant PepsiCo is making new efforts to combat climate change. On Wednesday, PepsiCo announced plans for "pep+," its first dive into its venture with Beyond Meat to attain more sustainable products.

In January, PepsiCo and Beyond Meat established, “The PLANeT PArtnership,” a plan that will allow both companies to expand on one another.

Beyond Meat will work with Pepsi to help the longtime food and drink distributor become more “sustainable,” while Pepsi will offer Beyond Meat a large platform to work with.

“Pep+ is the future of our company – a fundamental transformation of what we do and how we do it to create growth and shared value with sustainability and human capital at the center. It reflects a new business reality, where consumers are becoming more interested in the future of the planet and society," said Ramon Laguarta, PepsiCo's Chairman and CEO, in the press release.

Pepsi wants to bring sustainability to every aspect of its products to keep up with the growing demand and pressure for big companies to become “eco-friendly.”

“For example, imagine Lay's will start with a potato grown sustainably on a regenerative field, and then be cooked and delivered from a Net-Zero and Net Water Positive supply chain, sold in a bio-compostable bag,” Laguarta said.

“Pep+” represents Pepsi's three “positives” that it plans to incorporate into its industry procedures: “Positive Agriculture, Positive Value Chain, and Positive Choices.”

Positive Agriculture will be incorporated by using regenerative practices to restore the Earth equal to the company's entire agricultural footprint.

Positive Value Chain will be achieved by working towards Net-Zero emissions by 2040 and Net Water Positive by 2030, along with sustainable packaging.

Positive Choices will be seen through the healthier food options that the company plans to offer, with more diverse ingredients and using less sugar and salt.
