KEY POINTS

  • Kelley Gilmore's Cloud Chamber will lead in developing a new "BioShock" game
  • The fourth installment will still focus on the game's narratives and player interaction
  • Codename "Parkside" has been under development since 2015
  • The new "BioShock" game won't be out for the "next several years"

2K Games has given Cloud Chamber the green light to spearhead the creation of a new “BioShock” game and the fourth installment in the famed retro-futuristic first-person shooter.

Leading the new “BioShock” game is 2K Games mainstay Kelley Gilmore who, according to Engadget, has helped developed titles such as “Civilization” and the “XCOM” series.

“BioShock” veterans Hoagy de le Plante, Scott Sinclair and Jonathan Pelling will work alongside Gilmore, while the game's original creator, Ken Levine, won't “have any influence” in the new game, it added.

Gilmore told Games Radar that Cloud Chamber's version of “BioShock” will still center on the game's narrative and interactive features that will continue to give players “unforgettable experiences.”

“That will remain at the core of our design vision for the next BioShock, and we have a myriad of ideas on how best to achieve it,” she said.

Gilmore's Cloud Chamber team will also involve individuals who have done their part in giving the gaming community some of its “high profile franchises” such as “Call of Duty,” “Assassin's Creed,” “Star Wars” and “Walking Dead.”

Along this line, Cloud Chamber is looking for more people who share their vision and those coming from different backgrounds and experiences.

“I'm confident that the depth and variety of game development experience at Cloud Chamber will lead to another unforgettable BioShock experience,” she added.

Kotaku on the other hand has it that “BioShock 4” has been under development since 2015, though the game has been rebooted several times.

Those familiar with the project also told the website that “BioShock 4” came with the codename, “Parkside,” and that 2K Games had contracted Certain Affinity, an Austin, Texas-based studio known for its exploits on games like “Halo” and “Call of Duty,” to develop the next-generation title.

However in 2016, 2K Games decided to withdraw the game from Certain Affinity and have an in-house name to have a crack at it. The game was rebooted in the process, it added. A year later, 2K Games transferred to Novato, California and started to recruit talents, including those who had worked on “Mafia III” in the succeeding months after they moved their studio.

2K Games said that the new “BioShock” won't be released for “the next several years” and it'll likely be quiet on their end in the coming years.
