Coldplay Tour: 2012 Dates Announced, Stops include Vancouver, Miami, Boston
Coldplay has announced the North American tour dates for their 2012 tour, which will take the UK band to cities including Vancouver, Miami and Boston.
The announcement comes just two months after Coldplay kicked off the start of their European leg in Spain, in support of their fifth studio album, Mylo Xyloto.
Released in October, Mylo Xyloto debuted at number one on the US Billboard 200 chart, selling more than 400,000 copies in its first week. The album, co-produced by longtime Coldplay collaborator Brian Eno, features 14 tracks, including Princess of China with Rihanna.
Just last week, Coldplay received three Grammy Award nominations, including Best Rock Performance and Best Rock Song for the new album's first single, Every Teardrop Is A Waterfall.
The Mylo Xyloto tour will be the band's first major world tour since their Viva la Vida days.
For nearly two years, from June 2008 to March 2010, Coldplay played everywhere from Japan to Hungary, Sydney to Jersey City, Rio de Janeiro to Irvine, and earned the band more than $116 million in ticket sales, according to Billboard.
On Wednesday, Coldplay dropped by Late Night with Jimmy Fallon and performed their latest single, Charlie Brown. The late night appearance, filmed earlier this week, is one of the last North American TV plugs for the band. In recent weeks, Chris Martin and company have hit The Today Show, The Ellen DeGeneres Show, Saturday Night Live and The Colbert Report.
The North American leg of the 2012 Coldplay world tour will kick things off on Apr. 17 in Edmonton, AB. The four-month tour will end Aug. 11 in St. Paul, Minn.
Fittingly, Coldplay's music video for Charlie Brown features a compilation of the band's live performances over the summer, when they played music festivals all over the world and treated fans to material from the new album. The video was released earlier this week.
Happy memories of playing this song at festivals over the summer . . . 'Proper' Charlie Brown vid coming later, wrote drummer Will Champion on the band's YouTube page.
The band's upcoming shows for their European leg include a 2-night stint in London, followed by shows in Paris and Cologne.
