Colin Farrell has revealed that he cannot wait for the lockdown to be over, so that filming for the upcoming movie “The Batman” can finally begin. The pandemic forced Matt Reeves to halt the production on the film as various countries announced nationwide lockdowns to prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus.

In an interview with GMA News, the 43-year-old actor opened up about his role in the upcoming movie and shared some specific details about his character. Farrell, who will be playing the role of Penguin in the film, shared that he cannot wait to get back on the set and start filming because his character is so "exciting."

The actor further stated that he has some amazing scenes in the movie, and he is really excited to “explore” himself as an actor while portraying a villain in the film.

“I had only started it and I cannot wait to get back. The creation of it, the aesthetic of the character, has been fun and I really am so excited to get back. I have a certain amount in the film. But there are a couple of tasty scenes I have in it and my creation and I cannot wait to get back,” Farrell said.

Penguin is one of the supervillains in the Batman universe. He made his first appearance in the comics in 1941 and is considered to be one of Batman’s greatest foes. Before Farrell, Danny DeVito was the only actor to play the particular character in “Batman Returns.” Since 1992, the Penguin has not been a part of any live-action movie made on the caped crusader.

Later in the interview, the “Lobster” star noted that he has been a Batman fan since Adam West’s portrayal of the Dark Knight in the 1960s TV series. He also explained that it is “exciting” to be part of the universe that he adores so much.

“It is all exciting. To be a part of that universe and there are certain words that are part of my internal lexicon: Gotham City, Penguin, Joker, Batman, Bruce Wayne, Harvey Dent, all these things. I watched the Adam West TV show growing up. And then in my teens, I saw (Tim) Burton’s version and I loved it,” Farrell said.

Recently, Reeves revealed that “The Batman” will not be a traditional origin story, for it will show the character’s origins in a different style.

In an interview with Nerdist, the “Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes” helmer noted that he never wanted to make a movie on Batman’s origin. However, he later admitted that the film will “acknowledge” his origins and how the caped crusader turned out to be one of the deadliest assassins.

Robert Pattinson is portraying the titular character while Andy Serkis, Zoe Kravitz, and Paul Dano will have pivotal roles in the movie.
