Update (12:40 p.m. ET): TMZ spoke to 49ers general manager Trent Baalke, who provided the team's response to the Colin Kaepernick investigation. "The 49ers organization is aware of the recent media report regarding Colin Kaepernick and is in the process of gathering the pertinent facts," he said.
Original story:
San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick is the subject of a sexual assault investigation, according to a report.
Law enforcement sources familiar with the situation said the alleged sexual assault occurred in Miami, TMZ reports. The incident reportedly occurred earlier this month at the Viceroy Hotel.
The sources added that the investigation is in its “beginning stages,” and it remains unclear what role, if any, that Kaepernick had in the alleged sexual assault, the website adds. At this point, police in Miami have not charged Kaepernick or any other individual with a crime.
Meanwhile, Terez Owens, a sports gossip site, allegedly received an “anonymous tip” from an individual who says the investigation involves a woman who alleges that she was assaulted by a group of men at the Viceroy Hotel. According to website’s source, the woman “claims that she was drugged or was under the influence of something,” and is “undergoing a mental evaluation.” It’s unclear if the claims posted by Terez Owens have any basis in reality.
TMZ contacted the San Francisco 49ers, as well as Kaepernick’s agent, for a comment on the situation. However, neither the franchise nor anyone associated with Kaepernick has addressed the sexual assault investigation.
