Colin Kaepernick Willing To Take Long Road To Fulfil NFL Return Dream
KEY POINTS
- Colin Kaepernick is willing to do anything to make an NFL return
- Kaepernick bares that no NFL team has given him a chance for an official tryout yet
- The Seahawks could be a sensible landing sport for Kaepernick
Colin Kaepernick is practically throwing everything in his power to fulfill his desire to return to the NFL.
He is determined to achieve this even if it means getting signed as a backup quarterback.
Kaepernick appeared in a rare interview on the "I AM ATHLETE" podcast alongside former NFL players Brandon Marshall, Chad Johnson and Pacman Jones.
The podcast was published on Monday, April 18, with the 34-year-old play-caller opening up on his status and the work he has been putting in to make it back to the NFL ranks.
"I know I have to find my way back in," Kaepernick stated. "So, yeah, if I have to come in as a backup, that's fine. But that's not where I'm staying and when I prove that I'm a starter, I want to be able to step on the field as such. I just need that opportunity to walk through the door."
Kaepernick has been left out since 2016, the same year he started his controversial kneeling protest against racial discrimination and police brutality.
He last played for the San Francisco 49ers–the only team he officially suited up for in the NFL.
The two-time WAC Offensive Player of the Year awardee has worked out with several players, including a couple of Seattle Seahawks players.
Aside from that, Kaepernick also reconnected with former Niners coach Jim Harbaugh.
The 34-year-old took part in the Michigan Wolverines program’s spring game where Kaepernick was made an honorary captain, USA Today reported.
"More than anything, we're just looking for a chance to walk through a door. I'll handle the rest from there,” Kaepernick added in the podcast interview.
As far as NFL teams who could be interested in him, the Wisconsin native revealed that no team has officially brought him in for a workout.
Although they have been picked as the most likely to give him a chance, the only meeting that Kaepernick had with the Seahawks was in 2017.
The Seahawks passed on Kaepernick with coach Pete Carroll stating then that they would not sign him because at the time, they already had Russell Wilson, who was traded to the Denver Broncos last March 16.
However, the Seahawks do not have a quarterback right now–something that could be a window of opportunity for Kaepernick.
As of this writing, nothing has come close to a potential deal for the second-round pick of the 2011 NFL Draft.
