'Command & Conquer' 4K Remaster Won't Have Microtransactions
Electronic Arts has announced that it will be releasing a remastered version of “Command & Conquer” for the PC. The remastered collection will include the original game and its follow-up “Command & Conquer: Red Alert.”
“Today, I’m thrilled to tell you we are going back to the beginning. We have decided to remaster ‘Command & Conquer: Tiberian Dawn.’ And while this is incredibly exciting on its own, we’re also aware of how passionate the community is about the ‘Red Alert’ universe,” producer and creative director Jim Vessella said. “So, we will also remaster the original ‘Command & Conquer: Red Alert.’"
Vessella also revealed that the classic expansion packs, Covert ops, Counterstrike and Aftermath, will also be bundled with the base games of both titles. The producer also noted that the remasters won’t have any microtransactions.
EA will be developing the remastered collection of “Command & Conquer” alongside Petroglyph Games, the same developer behind “Star Wars: Empire at War” and “Grey Goo,” according to Polygon. Petroglyph includes many of the same developers from Westwood Studios and some of the same people who originally worked on the first “Command & Conquer” game from 1995. This includes C&C co-creator Joe Bostic, “Red Alert” and “Tiberian Dawn” lead programmer Steve tall and Mike Legg, who contributed all of the audio systems at Weswood studios. Another returning member in the team is Frank Klepacki, who will once again compose the music and direct audio for the remaster collection.
Additionally, EA will also be partnering with Lemon Sky Studios to develop the “Command & Conquer” remaster collection in 4K. Lemon Sky is already a staple in the gaming industry and has worked on games such as “Marvel’s Spider-Man,” “Diablo III: Eternal Collection,” “Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare” and “Uncharted: The Lost Legacy,” as pointed out by GameSpot.
“Lemon Sky is one of the premier art studios around the world, with a unique specialty in remastering classic RTS titles. After meeting their team and hearing their passion for C&C, we are incredibly lucky to have them team up with Petroglyph to develop the highest quality C&C possible,” Vessella said.
Vessella also confirmed that they haven’t even begun developing the remaster collection yet, but this should provide the community some time to provide input and help influence how the remastered “Command & Conquer” collection is made. The producer encourages fans to engage on Reddit and other community channels to let their voices be heard.
