French first lady Carla Bruni Sarkozy is pregnant, a German newspaper reported, quoting French President Nicolas Sarkozy's father.

The two do not want to know the gender in advance, but I'm sure it will be a girl and as beautiful as Carla, Bild newspaper quoted Pal Sarkozy as saying.

Though Bruni avoided confirming rumors of her pregnancy during a live television interview at French TF1 television on Monday, she refused to deny she was expecting.

According to Daily Mail, the former supermodel smiled when the presenter congratulated her rumoured pregnancy.

Speculations were high in the past few weeks concerning pregnancy of the former Italo-French model as she was spotted in neatly done loose attire recently.

The rumor gained momentum when the 43-year-old decided to opt out of Cannes Film Festival because of private and professional reasons.

The model-turned-singer is rumoured to be three months pregnant, possibly with twins, due in October.
