Construction at Obama Presidential Center Resumes After Noose Found On Site
Construction resumed Wednesday at the future Obama Presidential Center in Chicago after a noose was found on the site last week.
Lakeside Alliance, the firm heading construction, stopped work and implemented anti-bias training for all staff. The builder also said it has instituted further security measures.
According to CBS Chicago, workers found the noose in the basement of the site.
The company said it has a zero-tolerance policy for "any form of bias or hate on our worksite."
Police are investigating and Lakeside Alliance has offered a $100,000 reward for help in finding those responsible.
Construction began on the Obama Presidential Center in September 2021 and is expected to be completed in 2025. The space will offer a library, playground, park, activity center and common space.
"Hate has no place in Illinois," Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker said on Twitter. "The noose is more than a symbol of racism, it is a heart-stopping reminder of the violence and terror inflicted on Black Americans for centuries."
